Denmark has the flattest work hierarchy in the world. PhD students in Denmark are academic employees of the Universities, who have access to health care and many other social benefits, as do their accompanying families. PhD student receives a generous salary, pension, and full vacation rights. Most are placed at A-4 at the beginning of their PhD (see salary scale here). There is no tuition fee for PhD students.
Copenhagen is among the most livable cities in the world, with a rich culture within music, theater, and associations (see here). A publicly supported daycare and health care system, maternity/parental leave, and six weeks of annual vacation make life easy for families. International candidates may find information on living and working in Denmark here. Helpful information is also available at the International Staff Mobility office at the University of Copenhagen, which offers various services to international researchers coming to and working at the University of Copenhagen.
Master / Bachelor thesis supervision:
For prospective students from the MSc in Statistics program, a strong background in measure-theoretic probability is highly beneficial.
